Mega
Duck - Introduction
My name is
Roel N and I am a full-time, proffessional nerd. And to be honest, I've
got a strange fetish for cheap Taiwanese pulp videogames. Ouch! Anyway,
one of the few cool things is the Mega Duck. It's a Gameboy rip off handheld,
that technically could be equal to the Gameboy, but everything Mega Duck
is just too bad to be any good. For instance, calling a handheld, cartridge-taking
Gameboy "competitor" the "Mega Duck" is just too silly
to even make jokes about. Nevertheless, it satisfies my lust for videogame
pulp, because *pulp* equals the Mega Duck's *games*.
When I first
started looking for Mega Duck info in 1998, I couldn't find anything on
the web except for a couple of collector's sites who mentioned that it
was a part of their collection. I first saw it in a toy shop where it
caused a really great laughter session for my friends and I. I didn't
buy it then (shame on me) but I got hold of some Ducks a while ago. Hell,
I happen to be the one that in the "All information known to mankind
is online"-age had to bring the news the Mega Duck, which is origianaly
white, was also produced in black plastic. My god!
I've been gathering
info on this strange handheld for a while now, and have got to know the
Duck quite well. Some of the games were true pulp, some of the games were
really dull, and some of the games are still to be found. On this site
I try to give all of you videogame pulp fanatics some juicy facts about
the Mega Duck. I have thrown together a couple of articles, each dealing
with their own Mega Duck chapter, so have a look around and try to figure
out how the marketing team must have felt when they had to promote the
Mega Duck.
I hope you
enjoy the Mega Duck story!
